SG17 Series Slide Gate Pressure Regulators – Self-Actuated Pressure Control from DN15 to DN125
The SG17 series slide gate pressure regulators keep the pressure in your system constant – without external energy, without control air, without a control loop. The regulator is self-actuated: the medium itself acts via the diaphragm on the slide gate/sealing disc pair, automatically maintaining the set setpoint. STASTO supplies the SG17 series in nominal sizes DN15 to DN125 as a wafer-type design in stainless steel, with nominal pressure PN10/40 (GS1 series: PN16/40) and setpoint ranges of 0.3–1.2 bar, 1–2.5 bar, 2–5 bar, and 4–10 bar.

Your Benefits
Why design engineers choose the SG17 series
Over 30 published SG17 variants in the catalog, sizing and material selection by our valve engineering team, and operating instructions for the SG17/SG18/SG29/SG30 series – turning your setpoint into a reliable design.
Self-actuated – no external energy required
The SG17 regulates without control air, electricity, or an external controller. This reduces installation effort and potential failure points, making the series ideal for plant sections where no control energy is available.
Sliding disc principle with high Kvs values
Two lapped sealing discs – one fixed, one moving – open the flow cross-section. The SG17 series covers Kvs values from 2.6 (DN15) to 237 (DN125) with a linear characteristic, handling high flow rates in a compact design.
Compact wafer design, low weight
Installation lengths are 33, 43, 46, or 52 mm depending on nominal size. This saves space in existing pipelines and keeps supported load low – an advantage for retrofits and conversions.
Materials configurable to suit the medium
Body in stainless steel 1.4408 or 1.4581, fixed sealing disc in coated stainless steel 1.4571, moving sealing disc in carbon material, SFC, or STN materials, diaphragm in CR – optionally EPDM or FKM, among others. We clarify the approved material-medium combination with you before ordering.
Guide
Selection guide: specifying the sliding gate pressure regulator correctly
Operating principle, flow direction, Kvs value and materials – the four parameters used to narrow down the right SG17 configuration.
Operating principle and flow direction
- Operating principle
- The control pressure acts on the movable sealing disc via the diaphragm. If the pressure rises above the setpoint, the sliding gate reduces the free flow area; if it drops, it opens further.
- Upstream pressure control
- Upstream pressure control keeps the pressure ahead of the regulator constant. Flow direction is part of the configuration – specify it when requesting a quote.
- Downstream pressure control
- Downstream pressure control keeps the pressure after the regulator constant, for example to reduce a fluctuating supply pressure to a stable setpoint.
- Pressure regulator or externally actuated control valve?
- A self-actuated regulator such as the SG17 maintains a fixed setpoint automatically. If the setpoint needs to be adjusted from the control system during operation, an externally actuated control valve should be considered instead.
Sizing and materials
- Nominal size and Kvs value
- Sizing is determined by the required Kv value, not by the pipe diameter. The SG17 series offers graduated Kvs values per nominal size (e.g. DN100 with 62 at 40% or 154 at 100% opening). An oversized regulator will hunt and operate unsteadily.
- Diaphragm
- CR diaphragms cover most standard applications; EPDM and FKM are available for other media.
- Sealing discs
- Fixed sealing disc made of coated stainless steel 1.4571; movable sealing disc available in carbon material, SFC, or STN materials depending on configuration.
- Installation Notes
- Observe flow direction, straight run requirements, and, where provided, the pilot balance line connection. Details are governed by the operating instructions for the SG17/SG18/SG29/SG30 series.

Availability, Sizing & Logistics
From setpoint to the right configuration
The SG17 series is a configurable product: nominal size, setpoint range, diaphragm material, and sealing disc pairing together form the type code that must be specified when requesting a quote or placing an order. Many variants are already listed in the STASTO catalog under their own part number, such as SG17-50-WWC4/10 or SG17-125-WWF4/10.
Availability and lead time
Both depend on the specific variant and will be confirmed in the quote or on the product page — please inquire about the specific configuration.
Operating limits by configuration
Medium temperature and pressure limits vary by configuration and material combination; the specifications in the technical datasheet of the respective variant are binding.
Accessories and spare parts
A compensator vessel is already included in the scope of delivery for some configurations, and available on request for others. Wear parts such as diaphragms and sealing discs are available through your STASTO contact.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Sliding Gate Pressure Regulators
Answers on operating principle, sizes, materials and ordering for the SG17 series.
What is a sliding gate pressure regulator?
A sliding gate pressure regulator is a pressure control valve in which two lapped sealing discs open and close the flow cross-section. In the SG17 series, adjustment is self-actuated via a diaphragm – without external power, control air or an external controller.
What nominal sizes and pressure ratings does the SG17 series offer?
The SG17 series covers nominal sizes DN15 to DN125 in wafer-type design with nominal pressure PN10/40; the GS1 series is rated PN16/40.
What setpoint ranges are available?
Setpoint ranges of 0.3–1.2 bar, 1–2.5 bar, 2–5 bar and 4–10 bar are available, depending on the selected variant.
What materials is the SG17 made of?
The housing is made of stainless steel 1.4408 or 1.4581, and the fixed sealing disc of coated stainless steel 1.4571. Depending on the version, the moving sealing disc is made of carbon material, SFC or STN materials, and the diaphragm of CR – other materials such as EPDM or FKM are available as options.
What medium temperature is permissible?
The permissible medium temperature depends on the version and material combination. The specifications in the technical datasheet for the respective variant are binding; we are happy to review your operating point in advance.
How do I order the correct version?
For inquiries and orders, the type code according to the technical datasheet must be provided – i.e. nominal size, design variant and setpoint range, e.g. SG17-50-WWC4/10. Alternatively, send us the medium, flow rate, inlet pressure and target pressure; we will recommend the suitable variant.
What is the lead time?
Lead time varies by variant. Current availability can be found on the respective product page or provided with our quote.
Are spare parts and an operating manual available?
Yes. Wear parts such as diaphragms and sealing discs are available, and we provide the operating manual for the SG17/SG18/SG29/SG30 series.
